[Kohaku has been quiet for a while. She's been in the forest most of the time, to find new things, and animals, but most notably can currently be seen from her journal. Placed at just the right distance away from a new and very pretty tree she found. (Though with a few less colors.) But the silence is broken soon by her laughing. This is something very new to her, even if other people can't hear it, it looks so new.

And the amazement is quite clear in her voice.]

I've seen so many plants before, but this is the first one that I've ever found to have more than one personality!

...I have no idea how I'm supposed to talk to it though...Talking to more than one plant at a time is already confusing enough...

[Then much later in the day-]

Uhm...I've been avoiding asking this for a long time, but...is there anyone that would be willing to teach me how to swim? I've never been in a lot of water, but I always hear that it's a lot of fun...

And it seems a little strange to be so old and have never tried it before...though I haven't tried a lot of things.

Maybe it might be a good idea to make a list of things I should try some day...

[Kai's face paled and he looked down, carefully picking up one foot that had been standing on some grass.]

[No one's reacted that way before, and she can't help but giggle.]

Grass is more used to it.

[Kai was still getting used to spirits being in the world back in his world, but he didn't want to piss them off or hurt any that didn't do anything wrong. Like just be there and living. If plants had personalities and opinions then they were every bit as alive as human or a spirit, right?]

It's going to be really hard not to hurt any plants. How do you do it?

[Very right. If only everyone thought that way.]

I was kind of made so I won't hurt them. I can fly, and I can only eat milk and honey.

Oh! Hey! I can sort of fly. With my airbending. I don't use it for that except with my glider, but I but I could get enough air to lift me by my wings for longer jumps.

[That would be pretty useful.]

Oh, but... I'm not sure I could live on just milk and honey. I kind of need to eat at least some plants.

I don't use any special magic to fly...even my bigger wings aren't for flying. [But wait-] Are you from the same world as Aang?

Humans usually eat more than just plants...I can live without food of any kind though.

[Kai frowned at the reference to Aang over Jinora, but made himself put on a smile.]

Yeah. We're both Air Nomads and Air Nomads eat a strictly vegetarian diet so they don't hurt any living thing... except plants, I guess.

Well that's interesting...[And something she hasn't heard of yet.] Isn't that hard though?

Not really. Miss Pema's been cooking vegetarian for ages. We just eat what she and the other cooks make.

Yeah, that would make it easier.

But uh... they do try to pick plants that grow back. Being self-sufficient at the temples is really important. So you know... we don't kill the plants when we eat them. Not entirely?

That's a good idea...may I ask though, why do you only eat plants?

Well, like I said, it's so we don't hurt any living thing. Air Nomads are supposed to be very non-violent and harming any life, even that of a fly, is wrong. I'm still new to a lot of this, but I'm trying to do it right.

...I guess the monks of the old days just didn't consider plants living like animals are.

That sounds like such a nice way to live! But most people don't think of plants like that. Currently, I'm the only one here that can hear them.

It must be nice... or is it? Do they all complain to you since you're the only one that can hear them? Do they yell at night when you're trying to sleep?

Sometimes. Normally about the weather, or if someone is hurting them. But they sleep when we do, and I've learned to tune some of it out. Though I've been allowed to put plants around the house, and there's quite a few in my room...but they can put me to sleep.

Do any of them like people other than you? Do they try to talk to other people and get upset that no one can hear them?

As long as you're nice to them, and help take care of them, they'll like anyone.

...I've actually never heard of an angry plant.

Do they still like people who end up eating part of them? Like... kale! Kale plants. You don't have to kill it, just cut some of it off and then cook it up. Or eat it raw. Do they still like people who do that?

[He needs to know so he can safely eat food without feeling guilty.]

That I really don't know. It's never come up before.

I would think as long as it isn't damaged permanently, and know it's for keeping something else alive, it shouldn't mind. Like trees and bushes that have fruit don't mind them being picked.

[She doesn't want him to feel guilty about that. Or that'd be awkward for everyone.]
